Product Description

Chinese doctors have used pulse diagnosis as one of their four main methods of diagnosis for at least 2,000 years. Even today, this art is integral to the correct identification of traditional Chinese medical patterns. Although most practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese medicine talk about the importance of the pulse in their practice, few practitioners in the West truly feel competent in this art. In this book, Bob Flaws, one of the most famous Western practitioners of Chinese medicine, shares his secret for learning how to do Chinese pulse diagnosis. Bob has identified a single key secret technique which will unlock Chinese pulse diagnosis for everyone who applies it. Using this technique, anyone can feel the 27 or 28 classical pulses.

Excellent!5

I found this book very useful and I believe every practitioner of TCM should have it.

Very disorganized2

While this book covers information that is of interest to TCM practitioners and lay people alike, it does so in a disorganized manner. One would think that a book on pulse diagnosis might start with describing the attributes of a pulse. Defining the terms used to describe the pulse would be a good place to start. Perhaps then one could go into how to take a pulse and what to look for. Unfortunately this book violates all standard pedagogical principles. Terms are used before they are defined. Circular definitions are used and information is presented in a redundant manner. While the information is interesting, the book should have been written in a much clearer fashion.

Very very good. I've wanted this book for some time. Glad to have it. It arrived promptly and in very good condition. Thanks. Wendy Fogg.

Great Service5
Great service, speedy delivery, book condition as described. Will do business with this company again.

Great Professional Reference5
For anyone looking to treat infertility disorders, I would highly recommend this book. The quality and sheer volume of information presented is quite impressive, and the same goes for her seminars. I would not suggest this book for anyone other than a TCM practitioner, as it is a professional text. The content is both highly specialized and should not be used by those without extensive training; besides, there are plenty of other introductory books that will give patients a more comprehensive view of TCM theory in an easily digestible format.

That said, this book is one of my favorites in the subject, and fully worth several times the purchase price!

Treatment of Infertility with Chinese Medicine 5
A valuable, modern and important resource for any practitioner wishing to work in or specialize in the field of infertility. Her analytical and poetic mind combined with the potency of Chinese medicine make this inspirational reading. Its a must have I cannot recommend highly enough.

Easy To Do, It Works5
The idea is tapping the energy centers on our body balances/removes the negative energy around us.

So, you think of the problem you'd like to get rid of, say an opposing affirmation you'd like to neutralize it with, then tap/rub the energy centers, and heal it away.

Well, try it. I did, I felt better right away. It's a nice skill to learn. Teach it to your kids, to your friends, family, it's easy and so simple to do.

To do it on animals, just imagine being your pet, and do the same process as your pet.

Best with your healings!

Brings different methods together and simplifies5
I'd just like to echo the positive reviews. The author explains different types of Meridian therapies (I started with Gary Craig's EFT) and simplifies the process. It helped me to make sense out of the concepts and methods. Highly recommended and does not take long to read.

Simply the Best Book on Self-healing5
After reading this book I finally feel confident enough to use EFT, or "Meridian Therapy" as the author prefers to call it, by myself! The book lays out the process in a very clear, concise and friendly manner. This is accomplished in the first 50 or so pages. (For instance, the locations of the tapping points are shown more clearly than I've seen anywhere else.)

The rest of the book provides more in-depth examples and case studies, to assist in making it even more easy to understand the process.

This book gives you more than the method; it also boosts your self-confidence so you more easily get started on the journey. Very strongly recommended!

Product Description

Examination of the tongue, like the pulse, is one of the principal diagnostic methods in traditional Chinese medicine. This book--newly revised in 1995--systematically describes each of the primary characteristics of the tongue (body color, shape and coating) and their significance in the clinic. It traces the historical development of tongue diagnosis and its relationship to externally- contracted disorders and the eight principals.

Featured in this revised edition are 59 color plates and accompanying case histories from the author's own practice. Other aspects of tongue diagnosis newly described in this edition include the integration of tongue and pulse diagnosis; the use of the tongue in diagnosing emotional problems; tongue diagnosis and herbal treatment; the tongue in prognosis; and special considerations regarding tongue diagnosis in children.

Customer Reviews

Tongue Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine5
I really believe this book is excellent for those TCM students that are of intermediate level(For beginers buy The Web That has No Weaver). Maciocia's book, I find is very common in Accupunture schools along with his book on pulse diagnosis. If the student understands basic TCM concepts and wants to expand his/her knowledge, whether a TCM student or a student in another type of Complementary Alternative Medicine, this is the next step. This book is through, concise, and easily understood.
Be Well and others will be too. Enjoy.

Excellent!5
A really useful book, with very good plates of tongues. Recommended for all TCM practitioners.

Always learning something new5

Great Reference5
I need this book for a class in Chinese Herbal Medicine. Im excited about it and its companion Formulas and Strategies. Pretty neat. Hard to find a comparible resource of its type. It lists hundreds of herbs and their nature.

Good, yet not Good3
Pro: very comprehensive, good for those who need all the information

Con: very comprehensive, too much detail violates the spirit of Oriental Medicine

Great resource5
This text is required for my TCM program to earn my acupuncture degree. Ive found it to be one of my favorite textbooks that Ive had to buy so far. Its informative, clearly organized, and thorough. Information on the herbs include the properties, a picture, main functions organized in order of importance, and some interesting comments about them as well. All the herbs are organized by category. My only complaint is how heavy it is to carry to class but what can you do? It should hopefully be the only Materia Medica that I will have to buy during the whole progr

Product Description

The new edition of this popular clinical text describes the application of traditional Chinese medical theory to the diagnosis and treatment of up to 48 diseases, conditions and disorders. In addition to the existing 34 covered in the first edition, 14 new conditions and symptoms have been added, and these include common, chronic and acute conditions which clinicians may see in their practice. Each chapter contains aetiology and pathology; differential diagnosis according to TCM; selection of treatments with acupuncture and herbs, with explanation of choices; case studies for illustration; summary of Western differential diagnosis; and discussion of prognosis and prevention. This book again brings the enormous wealth of the author's experience, and his insights in applying TCM medicine to a Western context, to the support of all clinicians whatever their own range of experiences.

Wonderful service and product5
I am always satisfied with the service and the products I receive from Amazon. Thank you!

Review of the CD Rom5
I bought the CD hoping I could have the information on several computers. I have had the book for 10 years.

You cannot use this CD on several computers. You have to download the software and use the CD to get information. I'm very disappointed about that. If I had know that, I would have just ordered a second copy of the book to keep at the office, instead of this CD.

This CD is not very functional. You can't just scroll down with your mouse, you have to click on the toolbar or hit the page down button.

Giovanni, of course, is the master. He is a wonderful author and is responsible for educating thousands of Western acupuncturists. I graduated 7 years ago and still use all his books.

In case you are wondering, he is also a very sweet and funny person. I went to his seminar and was very happy to find out that such a genius can be so humble and funny. He always admits he doesn't know everything and that is rare in authors of Chinese Medicine books. ;)

Buy the book, not the CD!

OK ... but not the colour on the cover ...3
I initially dove into this book, very well laid out and attractive but don't be deceived it's not the be all of diagnosis despite it's mammoth number of pages. As far as I've been trained, he's about 70% of the full story ... definately a wonderful introduction to TCM's internal medicine but not everything you need to know. His appendix pages on western differentiation are very welcomed, but are quite basic. Many people in TCM are not so interested in Western meds. but they are very important so thumbs up on the inclusion.

It's not a bad book, but it's not so great as the Chinese texts I have in my library who give you the same info at a fraction of the cost, less room on your shelf and a lot less speculation.

Thanks to Maciocia we have a solid intro to TCM, for that I think we are all indebted ... but his factory of TCM books are a bit much considering you can get the real info from the source in Chinese Textbooks with both Chinese and English in them.

Yours,
Hastings
